Heinz at the heart of a healthier menu

Heinz at the heart of a healthier menu

Condiments brand Heinz is launching two reduced-fat sauces to help the foodservice industry make the most of the growing sales opportunity in healthier options.

According to Mintel the standard dressing market dropped nine per cent between 2003 and 2005 whilst the reduced fat/calorie market grew by 31 per cent and is forecast to reach £678m by 2010.

To help its customers make the most of this change in consumer behaviour Heinz is launching a Light French Dressing and a Light Salad Cream, both in 12g sachets at 200 per case.

With at least 80 per cent less fat than Heinz standard French dressing, the new Light French Dressing has less than 6 per cent fat and less than 14 calories per sachet. Again according to Mintel, French dressing is one of the most popular salad dressings and enjoyed by one in five consumers.

Heinz says that the new Light Salad Cream sachet will still have all the tangy flavour of the original standard variety but without the guilt, as it has at least 25 per cent less fat.

The Heinz brand currently holds a 68 per cent share of the Salad Cream market and the company believes that consumers will be eager to embrace the new format and healthier style.

Commenting on the developments, Claire Vaughan, brand manager from Heinz said: “We know that healthy eating is no longer a fad but a way of life and Heinz is committed to helping caterers offer healthy choices to ensure consumers are given the best possible options.”
