Originally formed specifically to coordinate the timekeeping activities at major sporting events for the Omega and Longines watch brands, both of whom already had a long and distinguished history in sports timing, Swiss Timing has been at the forefront of timekeeping in sport for many decades.
As well as providing a sports timekeeping service for the watch brands of Swatch Group, Swiss Timing has continually developed new equipment, enhancing the service provided not only to governing bodies, but to athletes, coaches, TV broadcasters and the spectators, whether they are next to the action in the arena or watching the event from home.
2008 has seen the full launch of the new OSV Star family of photofinish cameras, the Chronos timing console, the third generation of Start Time and later this year the new OSB11 swimming starting block which was used for the first time in Beijing this summer.
Other new equipment, more specific to use at high level competition such as the Olympics has included a transponder timing system for athletics with the transponder small enough to fit to the athletes bib, three sided, three colour high resolution field event display boards for athletics and new GPS tracking systems for dinghy racing.
